Oysters-bender continues... National Beer Hall FINE FOOD, BEER & SPIRITS
[LIGHTNING POST]
I arrived in my hometown Calgary on Tuesday and my mom has been waiting for a drinking & oyster slurping partner for ages. In the afternoon she texted asking if I'd like to go to National for oysters and drinks. I thought, "this couldn't be more perfect, all I want is to oyster, all the time!"
It may just be me but I feel like a year or two ago there was one National Beer hall on 17th and i blinked, they 'spawned' and there are now four! From bowling and ping pong to roof-top beer gardens and family fine food. Their breadth reaches far and wide.
The only other memory of this place is hazy. A year ago when my friends celebrated my return to the cowboy mecca and we drank Jameson whiskey as if my living in Ireland had given me a new liver with rapid metabolism. I won't divulge too much but it ended well - thanks to George, I got it on film.
BUCK A SHUCK every Tuesday oysters are $1 each (minimum of 6)
These are a steal! I always say, you should wonder how it is that your food can be sold so cheap. Even more impressive is that both East & West coast oysters are the same price. Depending on the season, the types may vary but there will always be one of each species! This week we had Sawmill Bay & Raspberry Point. Surprisingly, we preferred the west coast oysters this week. My only complaint is the mignonette and its lack of garnish, but really that's not a real complaint.
COCKTAILS & PINTS all single portions & beers are $5.50.
I'm sharing the Oyster-Love this month, I hope you'll share it too! Where are your favourite places to eat oysters? [Previous Post: Oyster Seeds at the Hatchery]
