Teatro – Perfect by the Plaza

Open for dinner seven nights a week and for lunches Monday to Friday, may also choose to join for Happy Hour between 3-5 pm where you enjoy half price back bar and wine, what a deal! Dining experience is not only about food, but also hospitality. After all, it's called the service industry for a reason **more on that in a later post**. Teatro has such professional staff, who always make you feel 'tended to' and your needs met, but are not overly pretentious.

Teatro has a lovely ambiance. I love walking around the Olympic Plaza district. Teatro been around since I can remember, which means it's stood the test of time. It is the classic date spot! Also, perfect for after-symphony drinks. I do love the lighting and open space. The cozy high-back seats, open kitchen, and backlit bar (might I add, they have an enomatic wine 'ice box') modernize the 1911-vintage feel of this impressive space. It's such a romantic place. The restaurant is housed in an old Dominion Bank, which gives it the added character of Calgary architecture and history, topics of which I have little to no understanding. What I do know is food, and it has great food.

Now in past visits, we loved this Scallop dish on Squid-ink linguini. It was simple, but wonderfully decadent! It just makes you smile. It was so good that we had to go back in search of the same dish. Much to our disappointment, they have changed the menu for summer and it is no longer there.

Fresh oysters here, are always a favourite for us. Paired with some bubbles, this time was Nino Franco Prosecco.

Pappardelle 'braised milk fed veal cheek, mint gremolata, parmigiano' ... this was delicious! Tender and fall apart good! The dish was so filling, but the egg noodles were definitely comfort food.

Linguini 'clams, mussels, shrimp, scallop, chorizo, summer peas, saffron'... if you like seafood, you will love this. The mussels were done just right and the fragrant saffron embellished the dish elegantly.

Call us gluttons, but we then shared a Bison Tenderloin. By this time, I don't know what I was tasting. The dish was topped with a goat cheese ravioli, delish! We finished without dessert, it was absolutely too much. I do, however, recall a couple weeks back where we did try the tiramisu. This is a signature item, but I found it too heavy for my liking.

Another one of Calgary's conscious choice restaurants, Teatro also attempts to source all their food from local operations. All in all, great service, soft ambiance, consistently-great food, and reasonable wine selection, make this place one of my faves.

Service: Professional, attentive, and friendly... some of the best in town

Likelihood to return: I want to return, all the time!

Food/Coffee: Food is definitely 4/5

Chillness: 4 chill chairs out of 5... on a date.
