We wanted to wait for you, yes all of you. Labour day came calling and your little heart went wandering to the island or the mountains; wherever your heart took you, even if it was in Vancouver, we hope you're rested and ready!Read More
We had some bitchin’ brews late last month. The intention was to have a laid back summer hang out; lawn chairs, beach towels, scenery, scent of sea and subconsciously make it totally about coffeeRead More
If you’re into summer and you like the beach, we’ve asked a few local cold brew makers to offer up their product for us to dabble in. What you will need, bring a cup, and as always a little bit of (coffee) cold brew to share with the group and come hang out on Spanish Banks with us.Read More
The Aviary is a jaw-droping-ly gorgeous co-work space where designers & architects congregate. They create an approachable space for the discourse of design and how we encounter it.
Coffee Potlucks exist to create discourse about approaching and learning about specialty coffee in Vancouver and bring community together.
We came, we conquered, we tasted.
Who's Coffee Potluck for?
If you’ve never ‘tasted’ coffee formally before or you're curious about what the fuss is all about, honestly this is for you. It’s a great way to see what the difference is between coffee and …. well, coffee. Not convinced? - just ask me.
For industry, it’s a way for people to come together in a relaxed space for conversation and taste coffees that might pass us by in the city had we not met together. There is strength in numbers!
For roasters, this is your chance to showcase your newest crop and exciting projects!
This month we tried a new format.
Instead of cupping, Espro brought the patented double micro-filter french press (or cafetiere) to brew a super clean coffee that we tasted in our own personal cups. We mingled, drank coffee and shared ideas.
Here are the some of the coffees we brewed.

Filters Twice, Like No Other
Under the hood you’ll find ESPRO’s patented double micro-filter, for the cleanest cup you can get. The two patent-pending filters are 9-12 times finer than a common French Press. They get beneath the grinds a nd filter twice, leaving all of the flavor and none of the grit. It’s so much more advanced than any other press on the market that many customers tell us it’s the last coffee maker they’ll ever buy. At least they saved the best for last.
I can't believe two weeks has flown by without an update. Last coffee tasting was serendipitous, it started with a featured talk on the effect of water on Coffee from Nic Witzke and we challenged you to pick up the differences side by side.
We tasted a number of coffees and Andrew from East Van Roasters pulled out all the stops by showcasing 3, count-em', three single origin chocolates roasted from bean to bar at East Van Roasters.Read More
What's it like to start up a coffee roaster in the remote BC town of Powell River? Our lovely Coffee Friend Citizens this week, Margot & Nate Jantz from 32 Lakes Roasters, will tell us!
Powell River has a population of 13,000 and is 40-min flight or 5-hour-2-ferry trip from Vancouver, BC.
Who, What: Nate Jantz, Green Buyer/Director of Coffee/Roaster & Margot Jantz, Director of Marketing
Right now I am drinking, while reading... sparkling water right now, but aside from that we receive the "roasters pack" each month, which is 3 different coffees from Canadian roasters. We are currently enjoying the Bows & Arrows, Nicaraguan Finca Bella Aurora :) and reading Hunger Games!
Highlights: A great tag-teamed conversation with another husband and wife team (shout outs to Eight Ounce Coffee), speaking about the lively community of roasters outside Vancouver and how they help each other out. 32 Lakes Roasters was also nominated for Best Community Impact for the Small Business BC Awards.

Thanks for reading!
Don't forget to come out to the public coffee tasting this Sunday at 3 PM on East Pender Street.
Coffee lols and dope chats in the Revolver vault with George Giannakos. Batch brew, under-brew, single-brew, what else? We're NOT Cupping, and so glad you said it so we didn't have to Colin.Read More
Here's a wee time-lapse video I did a while back. I'd love to see what your ritual is like. I'm making a 3-minute filter coffee on the clever brewer here, but find that more often than not I get an under-extracted cup. Geeks abroad, is that your experience? (30 grams coffee, 500 mL water)Read More
Coffee-friends and citizens of the coffee community, it gives me great pleasure to take you, conveniently, back to my hometown Calgary. Last week, we spoke with Ben at Monogram Coffee and this week it's Eight ounce coffee!Read More
